If you're buying an e-bike as a Christmas gift, the sale price isn't the only thing to check. Most direct-to-consumer e-bike and scooter stores give you 14 or 15 days to return a bike, counted from the day it's delivered. Order on Black Friday (November 27, 2026), and the box usually lands in early December. That means the return window can close before anyone unwraps it on December 25.
We read the refund and shipping pages of 10 e-bike and scooter stores we cover on October 27, 2026. Here's which ones leave you room to return a gift that doesn't fit, and how late you can order.
The quick answer
- Safest for a Black Friday gift: Happyrun. Orders placed November 21 to December 24 can be returned until January 6, 2027, instead of the usual 14 days.
- 30-day windows that reach past Christmas: Hoverfly (30 days from delivery) and NIU (30 days from the order date). A November 27 NIU order can be returned until about December 27.
- 30 days, but read the catch: Gyroor gives 30 days from purchase, but its refund policy says sale items can't be refunded, and most of its lineup is on sale right now.
- Tightest for gifts: TST E-bike, iSinwheel, Tenways, Freego, Mokwheel and INMOTION, with 14 or 15 days. INMOTION and Freego only take back unopened boxes for a change-of-mind return.
- Order-by date: Hoverfly is the only store here that publishes a holiday cutoff: orders placed on or after December 17 aren't guaranteed to arrive in time. For the others, order by about December 10 based on their own stated delivery times, and much earlier for Tenways.

Happyrun sells budget-friendly fat-tire e-bikes, cargo e-bikes and electric dirt bikes direct from California, with free shipping to the U.S. and Canada, 0% APR financing and two-bike combo bundles.

NIU's US online store sells KQi electric kick scooters and BQi e-bikes with free shipping to the lower 48 states, a 30-day return window and a 2-year warranty on the main body. As of November 1, 2026, scooters start at $199 and e-bikes at $799.
Mokwheel is a California-based e-bike brand selling fat-tire, commuter and step-through electric bikes direct to U.S. riders, with free shipping, 0% financing and a 2-year warranty.

Tenways sells lightweight, design-focused e-bikes (CGO600 Pro, CGO800S, AGO X, Wayfarer) direct to U.S. riders, with free shipping to the lower 48 states, Affirm financing from 0% APR and a 5-year frame warranty.
Why a Black Friday gift can miss its own return window
Here's the math with a typical store that processes orders in 1 to 3 business days and ships in 3 to 5:
- You order on Friday, November 27.
- The bike ships between November 30 and December 2.
- It arrives roughly December 3 to 9.
- A 14-day window from delivery ends roughly December 17 to 23.
So the person you bought it for may never get the chance to sit on it before the return deadline passes. A 30-day window, or a store with a holiday extension, fixes that.
Return windows for gifts: 10 stores compared
All windows are for change-of-mind returns on new bikes and scooters, as written on each store's own policy page on October 27, 2026.
Store | Window | Counted from | Holiday rule or catch |
|---|---|---|---|
Happyrun | 14 days | Receipt | Nov 21–Dec 24 orders: until Jan 6 |
Hoverfly | 30 days | Delivery | Order before Dec 17 |
NIU | 30 days | Order date | No holiday rule listed |
Gyroor | 30 days | Purchase | Sale items not refundable |
TST E-bike | 14 days | Receipt | 15% fee + return shipping |
iSinwheel | 14 days | Delivery | Fees rise once opened |
Tenways | 14 days | Receipt | Delivery promised within 30 days |
Freego | 14 days | Delivery | Unopened only, $400 deducted |
Mokwheel | 15 days | Receipt | No holiday rule listed |
INMOTION | 15 days | Signing for it | Unopened items only |
Two of these stores word the start date differently in different places. Mokwheel's refund policy says 15 days "of receiving the product" in one line and "of purchase" in another, and TST's policy also switches between receipt and purchase. If the date matters for your gift, ask the store to confirm it in writing before you pay.
How late can you order and still get it by Christmas?
Only Hoverfly publishes a holiday cutoff. For the rest, we added up each store's own processing and transit estimates. Treat these as best-case numbers: carriers slow down in December, and most of these stores don't ship bikes to Alaska or Hawaii at all.
- Gyroor: 6 to 12 hours to process, 2 to 5 business days to deliver.
- iSinwheel: weekday orders ship within 24 hours, then 2 to 5 business days by UPS or FedEx.
- TST E-bike: 3 to 5 working days, including processing, from its California warehouse.
- Happyrun: 1 to 3 business days to process, then 3 to 5 in transit by FedEx.
- Hoverfly: 2 to 3 business days to process during the holidays, then 3 to 5 to deliver; orders on or after December 17 aren't guaranteed.
- Freego: 1 to 3 business days to ship, then 3 to 8 in transit.
- INMOTION: 1 to 3 business days to ship, then 2 to 8 in transit (the site banner says 3 to 7).
- Mokwheel: 2 to 7 days to deliver, but 7 to 15 business days if a third-party carrier handles it.
- NIU: orders usually ship within 3 working days, and NIU quotes 3 to 10 business days in total, processing included.
- Tenways: the shipping policy only promises delivery within 30 days of accepting the order. Don't leave a Tenways gift until December.
Big e-bike shipments often need an adult signature on delivery (Happyrun's shipping policy says so outright), so make sure someone is home, or ship to an address where the surprise won't be spoiled.
How to buy an e-bike as a Christmas gift you can still return
- Time your order around the rule. At Happyrun, an order on or after November 21 gets the January 6 return date. If you order earlier, the normal 14-day window applies.
- Pick a 30-day store if size or fit is a guess. Hoverfly and NIU leave room past Christmas. Check the Gyroor sale-item rule before counting on its 30 days.
- Don't open the box early at strict stores. INMOTION and Freego only accept unopened returns for a change of mind, so a test ride ends your return option.
- Know what a return costs. Even inside the window, sending a bike back can cost a lot: Freego deducts $400 per bike, Happyrun charges $150 return shipping plus a 4.5% processing fee, TST adds a 15% handling fee on top of return shipping, and Hoverfly's return shipping runs $75 to $550 by product. Our e-bike return policy comparison breaks down every fee.
- Keep the packaging. Several stores ask for the original box, and it's hard to find a bike-sized box on December 26.
- Get the date in writing. If a store's pages disagree, email support and keep the reply with your receipt.
